The Entomological Collection of Campos Gerais do Paraná-UEPG (CECG) comprises an important collection of the biodiversity of insects in the region of Campos Gerais do Paraná. It is estimated that the area presents an entomofaunal quite diverse, with representatives of all orders of insects that occur in Brazil. The climatic factors, geological and diversity, structure and complexity of the formations and vegetation of the region microhabitats certainly contribute greatly to the richness of species of insects and interactions with other animals and plants. Whereas data concerning insect fauna of the region are still incomplete, since most of the work comes from surveys of specific groups, in restricted areas, the CECG aims to deepen knowledge about the composition of regional entomofaunal by convening, systematize and make available the largest possible range of information. Set installed in the Department of General Biology, at Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa, the collection holds about 100,000 specimens of insects, between terrestrial and aquatic species, mainly of orders Diptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera and Lepidoptera. The importance of the collection is on record of entomofaunal areas of today rather modified, the possibility of identifying insects representatives of various groups, in addition to the provision, by the Internet, a lot of information from the entomofaunal regional, as the presence of endemic species or bioindicators of environmental quality.

A Coleção Entomológica dos Campos Gerais do Paraná-UEPG (CECG) compõe um importante acervo da biodiversidade de insetos da região dos Campos Gerais do Paraná. Estima-se que a região apresente uma entomofauna bastante diversa, com representantes de todas as ordens de insetos que ocorrem no Brasil. Os fatores climáticos, geológicos e a diversidade, estrutura e complexidade das formações vegetacionais e de microhabitats da região certamente contribuem fortemente para a riqueza de espécies e de interações destes insetos com outros animais e plantas. Considerando que os dados referentes à fauna de insetos da região são ainda bastante incompletos, visto que a maior parte dos trabalhos trata de levantamentos de grupos específicos, em áreas restritas, a CECG visa aprofundar o conhecimento acerca da composição da entomofauna regional, ao reunir, sistematizar e disponibilizar o maior número possível de informações. Instalada no Departamento de Biologia Geral, da Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa, a coleção abriga cerca de 100.000 exemplares de insetos, entre espécies terrestres e aquáticas, principalmente das ordens Diptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera e Lepidoptera. A importância do acervo está no registro da entomofauna de áreas hoje bastante modificadas, na possibilidade de identificação de insetos representantes dos diversos grupos, além da disponibilização, via Internet, de uma grande quantidade de informações da entomofauna regional, como a presença de espécies endêmicas ou bioindicadoras de qualidade ambiental.
