The collection of aquatic insects housed in DZUP is small and from a historical standpoint it has received little interest from specialists. The concept of ‘aquatic insects’ is complex, once they represent numerous orders, that part of their development is dependent of water collections. Usually, insects of the orders Odonata (dragonflies and damselflies), Ephemeroptera (mayflies), Plecoptera (stoneflies), Megaloptera (alderflies, dobsonflies and fishflies) and Trichoptera (caddisflies) are considered typical aquatic insects, because the immature stadia (nymphs and larvae) have mandatory developing in aquatic environments. The collection of ODONATA houses 461 pinned specimens from distinct localities. We plan an exponential growing for the collection already at short term, for both dried and ethanol preserved specimens.
